Grants Development FAQ'S

  1. How do I apply for a grant?
In order to apply for a grant, you and/or your department must contact the IRSC Grants Office to discuss the application process. Please see the “How to Begin” tab for additional information on the grant application process.
  2. What is a P.I.?
The “P.I.” is the Principal Investigator and is the primary person in charge of a grant, cooperative agreement, training or public service project, contract, or other sponsored project.
  3. What are the college priorities when seeking external funding?
IRSC aligns its grant funding priorities with the mission and goals of the College while focusing on innovative ideas and their impact on the community we serve.
  4. How do I write a grant?
Writing a good grant proposal is not an easy task. The Grants Development Team is here to assist you with any questions you may have and provide guidance throughout the entire grant development process, (from researching initial funding opportunities to identifying and applying for the grant). We will guide you through the Request for Proposal (RFP) ensuring a successful application is written. Please see our Resources page for more information.
  5. How do I know if my project idea will be supported?
The Grants Development Team will provide feedback on your project idea and help to ensure it aligns with the funding agency’s mission.
  6. What if I have a great idea for a project but no idea who might be interested in funding it?
The Grants Development Team constantly searches for funding opportunities through various local, state, and federal agency websites, listservs, and professional grants organizations to match project ideas with funding opportunities.
  7. Are there grants for students?
There are various individual grants for students that are available through Financial Aid and the IRSC Foundation Office. The Grants Development Team does not provide support for grants to individuals.
  8. What happens after a grant is awarded?
Once a grant is awarded the P.I. and the Grants Management Team within the Finance Department will meet to go over the program’s budget plans and guidelines.
