Loan Procedures

Entrance Counseling/Promissory Note

All borrowers for the Federal Direct Student Loan at IRSC must complete Entrance Counseling every year before their loan can be processed. The purpose of this session is to help students understand their rights and obligations as a student borrower.

You must use your FAFSA PIN to sign into the Direct Loan website to do your entrance counseling and sign your promissory note. Please note that your promissory note will not be available until approximately a week after you have been awarded a loan.

Please follow the instructions for accessing entrance counseling and promissory note information.

Entrance Counseling

(you will need your FAFSA Pin to access loan entrance counseling - login first, then click on entrance counseling and select  --> "I am an undergraduate student")

Once your loan entrance counseling is complete, the results will load into our system within 1 to 3 days.

Signing Promissory Note

(you will need your FAFSA Pin to access your promissory note and you must be awarded a loan before you can sign  - login first, then click on sign master promissory note)

Note: You must sign your promissory note within 30 minutes from logging into the system, otherwise your information will not be processed and you will have to start all over. Make sure you hit the “submit” button at the end of the form in order for your promissory note to be processed.

The financial aid office should receive confirmation of your signed prom note within 1 to 3 days.

Exit Counseling

The federal government requires that Federal Direct loan recipients complete student loan exit counseling prior to graduating or whenever they cease to enroll at least half-time. The purpose of this session is to help students understand their rights and obligations as a student borrower. The Financial Aid Office will contact you to set up the interview.
