ANNOUNCEMENT: Indian River ranked 9th in Region 8/FCSAA Poll
||The Indian River State College Pioneers climbed to 9th place in the Region 8/FCSAA Coaches Poll released today. IRSC had a strong performance in the Florida JUCO Shootout this past weekend in Gainesville, Florida. The Pioneers defeated ranked Santa Fe 80-69 and lost to the 4th ranked team in the nation Northwest State 87-84.
The Indian River State men's basketball team returns to work this fall after a very successful 24-7 record for the 2012-2013 season.
The Pioneers finished ranked tenth in the Region 8 poll. The Pioneers are very optimistic about their chances for a conference title in the 2013-2014 campaign.
Sophomores returning are All Conference point guard Jamie Anderson, shooting guard Isaac Torres who returns after a red shirt season, All Conference forward David Johnson, guard Jorrdan McCray and guard Andre Robinson. Coach Joe Sanchez feels very positive about the incoming recruiting class. The Pioneers recruited a very strong freshman class this season to solidify the front line to complement their returning backcourt.
The freshman class includes, forward Andrew Vanderbrook, guard Desmond Mitchell, center Samson Nnaji, guard Shelvick Henry, forward Bradley Christian, center Mark Kubatov and forward Telvin Gabriel.
We feel that we will have a well-rounded team with balance and depth at all positions. There is no doubt that we will need our returning experienced players to lead the way and our newcomers to play a major role in the success of this team. We have challenged ourselves with a very aggressive schedule hoping that it will help us coming down the stretch of our season.
