Welcome Back to the 2015 - 2016 Men's Basketball Season
November 10 - IRSC vs. Florida State College of Florida
IRSC Men’s Basketball team traveled to Florida State College – Jacksonville on Wednesday night to take on the Blue Wave and was able to come home with a 101-93 win to improve their record to 4-1 on the season.
The Blue Wave started the game off strong and jumped out to an early lead. The Pioneers would quickly get settled in and start to chip away at the lead. Will Nunez (FR) came off the bench and gave the Pioneers a huge spark scoring 14 points in the first half and helped IRSC take a 57-43 lead into the locker room. “FSC-Jacksonville came out fast,” stated Head Coach Charlie Wilson. “I thought it took our guys a little bit to adjust to what they do. We were not able to get a scout coming into this game so we talked all week about playing our principles and adjust during the game to what we would come across. It is never easy going into a game blind and our guys handled it well. Our bench really stepped up in the first half and really gave us a spark when we needed it as well.”
The second half started strong for the Pioneer who were able to extend their lead. The Blue Wave were able to make a strong run late in the game, but again the Pioneer men were clutch from the Free Throw line (19/23) and were able to ice the game. Melton Sanders once again led IRSC with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Desmond Mitchell added 17 points, 12 assists, and 4 steals. Gito St.Fort and Willy Nunuz chipped in with 14 points each and Andrew Anderson added 12 points and a team high 9 rebounds. “I’m proud of our guys. All 10 of them contributed tonight. Anytime you can win on the road it is a big time win. They stayed strong the second half with Jacksonville made their run and were able to finish the game. Tonight we got better.”
The Pioneer men will be back home this Friday at 5:30 to take on Ave Maria.
