Announcing the September Faculty Member of the Month

Barbara A. Fuller, Ph.D., Professor – History Department

Barbara-FullerPort St. Lucie resident Dr. Barbara A. Fuller is being recognized as the Indian River State College September Faculty Member of the Month. Annie joined the IRSC family August 1999 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in August 2013.

Annie is highly respected by her students and her colleagues. She is a dedicated and enthusiastic instructor who continually strives to increase student engagement and success. Annie believes that retention strategies should be implemented at the beginning of students’ college careers and makes it her priority to help them adjust to college life by providing them with information and strategies to be successful. Annie makes sure that her students know about institutional resources available to assist them in overcoming both personal and academic barriers. She regularly uses resources like Reachouts, taking information she receives from student performance to make changes to her courses, such as adding quizzes at the start of the semester to provide timely feedback about potential student problems. Since 2000, Annie has sponsored the International Student Club. Every year, club members volunteer at the Mustard Seed twice a month. The club also has a literacy project where club members visit kids at the George W. Truitt Head Start Center and read to them. Under her leadership, the club has won six awards, including Outstanding Community Service and Club Advisor of the Year.

Annie’s students eagerly share their thoughts on her lasting impact on them. “Dr. Fuller is an amazing professor who made me fall in love with history.” shares one of her students. Another states, “Dr. Fuller goes the extra mile to help her students learn.” They continue saying, “She was very tough during my first semester, but she totally prepared me for the rest of my classes.” Lastly one student affirms a confident view of Annie’s work as an exceptional instructor at IRSC sharing, “‘If it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you,’ and Dr. Fuller challenged me every time I stepped into her classroom. It has forever changed me and I am extremely grateful to her for the extra effort and time she gives to her students. She is awesome!”

Announcing the October Faculty Member of the Month

Dr. Kimberlie Massnick, Master Instructor, Criminal Justice Department

Kimberlie-MassnickStuart resident Dr. Kimberlie Massnick is being recognized as the Indian River State College October Faculty Member of the Month. Dr. Massnick joined the IRSC family January 2008, first teaching as an Adjunct instructor. Kim began full-time service in August 2015 when she was promoted to Master Instructor working with the Criminal Justice Department at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, the position she serves in today.

Those who work with Kim each day in the Criminal Justice Department know her to be an extreme pleasure to work with. She exudes energy at every turn with her focus always on her students and their successes. Her students appreciate her as a supportive and enthusiastic instructor who challenges them to do their best. Kim serves as a new faculty mentor, a member of the Service Learning Professional Learning Community and a member of the IRSC AFC Board. Kim also assists with the certification of the A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice through Quality Matters and rebuilding the program using Open Educational Resources (OER), Kim was the lead in establishing the IRSC Pi Beta Iota Chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma, National Criminal Justice Honor Society.

With over 500 hours of community service with her students this year, Kim has a genuine commitment to civic service and mentorship inspiring many of her students to volunteer. She volunteers as a Public Defense Investigator for Florida’s 19th Judicial Circuit along with several of her students. Kim also led IRSC’s presence at Indian River County’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” rallying over 25 students and staff to attend – the largest group with the most funds raised. Kim earned her PhD in Criminal Justice in July 2017. Despite all of Kim’s commitments, she still finds quality time to spend with her husband, Glenn – who often is volunteering right beside her.

Dr. Massnick’s students readily share how much they appreciate her dedication to their success. One student shares, “Dr. Massnick is hilarious and genuinely cares about her students. Her class was very interactive, and she was quick to respond to our needs.” Another talks about how Kim helped him live up to his goals, “She held me accountable to make sure I graduated. I loved her as a professor.” A student also appreciated Kim’s concern during Irma sharing, “Dr. Massnick repeatedly checked on me and the entire class during the hurricane.” Finally one of her students declares, “Dr. Massnick has by far the best class and is the best professor at IRSC!”

Announcing the November Faculty Member of the Month

Jonathan Glover, Ph.D., Associate Professor
English/Communication/Modern Languages

Danny-GloverVero Beach resident Dr. Jonathan Glover is being recognized as the Indian River State College November Faculty Member of the Month. Jonathan joined the IRSC family August 2011 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor November 2014 the position he holds today in the English/Communication/Modern Languages Department.

Jonathan’s dedication to the College mission shows in his focus on student success, embracing College planning priorities, and working well in all facets of the daily routine of college life as an instructor. His colleagues share how Jonathan approaches teaching students in his classes, like a fantastic adventure in teaching and learning. He strives daily to find a perfect balance of pushing his students to go further and encouraging them with an equal intensity to support their success. He does all this while sharing with them the exhilarating world of ideas that English, Communication and Modern Languages can open to a student. Jonathan is highly dedicated to service learning and civic engagement at the college, inspiring students to become involved. Students find Jonathan is knowledgeable, generous with his time, and it comes as no surprise – an excellent teacher.

Jonathan’s students easily have some of the most enthusiastic comments about their experience in his class. One student states, “He is the best professor at IRSC, I highly recommend you take Dr. Glover’s class.” Another shares, “Dr. Glover is an astounding professor! He listens to you and answers all of your questions.” Finally a student shares his opinion on his experience in Jonathan’s class saying, “Dr. Glover’s class is by far my favorite class here!”
