EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (EDP)

Welcome

Indian River State College understands that a highly trained, skilled, and engaged workforce is a valuable return on investment. The institution has gone to great lengths to invest in its employees above and beyond position-specific training. Development opportunities are both formal and informal with offerings made available in response to expressed and perceived needs and desires.

The Indian River State College Employee Development Program (EDP) is located within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness includes EDP, Strategic Planning, Grants, Accreditation, and the AVP serves as the Federal legislative liaison for the College. Indian River State College has maintained a strong institutional commitment to staff and program development and although the State of Florida no longer urges that funds be set aside for staff development, each year Indian River State College commits in excess of 4% of the total operating budget. Program funds for EDP have never decreased, only increased resulting in additional opportunities for employee development and training.

Since the inception of EDP in 2000, the program has expanded into a comprehensive program that coordinates developmental and training opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators. With concentrated development offerings for targeted employee groups, EDP has become a familiar name at IRSC and is the “go-to program” when a professional development need is identified.

Program Objectives:

The objectives of the Employee Development Program are to identify, develop, and provide strategies, resources, tools and offerings designed to support and increase the effectiveness of Indian River State College employees.

Promotion:

Employee Development offerings are promoted internally by email announcements, website, message boards, and flyers. Events open to the community are promoted via IRSC’s Institutional Advancement Office for press releases and local news coverage, College radio station WQCS, and employee’s membership in various community organizations.

Impact:

The Employee Development Program is designed to have significant impact on all departments, divisions and employees of Indian River State College. The EDP program has coordinated and supported our president-led cultural enhancement initiative. This college wide initiative has greatly impacted all of the college’s employees by transforming our college’s culture. Through this initiative a culture has been created in which: each employee understands and anticipates the need to change to remain relevant, employee expression is encouraged, individual development and empowerment is supported, and most importantly has created a culture that nurtures employees and supports organizational learning. This initiative, called jumping the curve, has greatly impacted all of the colleges employees.

Evaluation of Outcomes:

Each EDP offering is evaluated by participants through an in-depth survey. Each participant is asked to score the event/offering on a scale of 1-5. Evaluations are tabulated to form overall reports and are used to improve future offerings.
