IRSC BRAIN BOWL BRINGS OUT
THE BEST IN THE “RED” TEAM

2017 Brain Bowl 
Brain Bowl finalists, faculty and staff pose for a photo at the IRSC main campus in Fort Pierce. The Red Team won the IRSC Brain Bowl competition with a total of 265 points. Red Team members (front row seated from left) are: Tahja Brooks, a Business and Technology major from Orlando, Danny Van, an Engineering major from Port St. Lucie, Brannon Reid Tucker, a Nursing major from Port St. Lucie, Jada Bradley a Nursing major from Port St. Lucie and Matthew Lindo, a Business and Marketing major from Port St. Lucie. Justus WestBerry, a Business major from Port St. Lucie, was also part of the winning team.

Academic knowledge, quick thinking, and teamwork are all part of the annual Indian River State College Brain Bowl competition. Students earn scores as individuals and on member teams.

At the recent IRSC Brain Bowl competition held on October 25, the top individual scorer was Will Duplex of Port St. Lucie, an IRSC student and a member of the HypeBeast team with an outstanding score of 145 points.

The winning team, the Red Team, topped all the competition with a total of 265 points. In the final playoff round, the Red Team beat the Sassy Science team 145 to 35. The winning team members are: Jada Bradley, a major in Nursing from Port St. Lucie, Tahja Brooks, a major in Business and Technology from Orlando, Brian Chamizo, a major in Business and Technology from Port St. Lucie, Matthew Lindo, a major in Business and Marketing from Port St. Lucie, Brannon Reid Tucker, a major in Nursing from Port St. Lucie, Danny Van, an Engineering major from Port St. Lucie and Justus WestBerry, a major in Business from Port St. Lucie.

Each member of the winning team will be awarded with one paid credit for a service learning class (paid for by the IRSC Foundation) and a College certificate.

According to Dr. Samuel Mikhail, IRSC Professor of Social Sciences/Economics, and Brain Bowl Committee Chairman, “Students who excel in Brain Bowl gain statewide visibility, providing a competitive advantage for the Florida Academic All-Star team and scholarship programs.”

The top four team rankings were: Red, HypeBeast, Sassy Science and Team Blank. A total of 19 teams and 78 students participated in the event. For more information, contact the IRSC Call Center at 1-866-792-4772.
