NEW IRSC PROGRAM ‘BUILDING FORT PIERCE’
TO BUILD UP LIVES AND THE COMMUNITY

Indian River State College is partnering with Career Source Research Coast, St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity and the Treasure Coast Builders Association in a new program, Building Fort Pierce, supported by the U.S. Department of Labor to build up lives and the local community by providing those who leave high-school without graduating a way to earn and learn while working on Habitat homes in Fort Pierce.

Participants in the program will be able to attended GED and college classes for free. They will gain valuable construction and building experience and national certifications building Habitat for Humanity homes in Fort Pierce. In addition, participants in the program will get help with job placement and career assistance.

The U.S. Department of Labor is providing IRSC with $900,000 over 3 years to build a program helping students work towards a GED while they gain valuable job experience. The program will allow IRSC to graduate 50 students in the next 3 years.

“The partnership with the Building Fort Pierce program is an exciting prospect to help give opportunity to young people in our community for education and employment while providing new homes for those in need.” shares Kevin Cooper, Assistant Dean of Advanced Technology who manages the new program.

IRSC is currently accepting applicants for Building Fort Pierce. Applicants must be residents of St. Lucie County between the ages of 16-24 and not currently going to school.
