#13 team in nation, Indian River State College, gets upset at home
IRSC remains in 1st Place in Conference as lead gets cut to a half game.

FT PIERCE,FL- The longest current winning streak in Florida Junior College Women’s basketball ended Saturday afternoon when Indian River fell, at home, to Palm Beach State College, 79-71. The #13 nationally ranked Lady Pioneers (17-4, 7-1) had their 13-game winning streak and perfect conference record snapped on Saturday afternoon. IRSC still remains in 1st place atop the Southern Conference standings. The loss was IRSC’s first loss in more than two months. The team’s last defeat came at the hands of NW Florida on December 5th.
Palm Beach State College’s hot shooting from the perimeter and deep proved to be the difference in the game. PBSC drilled nine 3-point shots and shot a sizzling 58% from the field for the contest. Palm Beach took a 34-26 advantage into the break and IRSC was never able to get it closer than six points for the remainder of the game. Indian River came into the game on a 10-day layoff, looking out of sync from the start and never got into their usual rhythm. The Lady Pioneers continue to dress only nine as injuries to RAVEN FIELDS- 6’3- CLEMSON UNIVERSITY SIGNE) and(SHANNON SMITH-6’2-LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY SIGNEE) continue to limit depth and size at the forward position.
KEONA DIXON-5’7- CLAYTON STATE SIGNEE led the way dropping in a team high 22 points, connecting on four from beyond the arc. DIXON added five boards as well.
CARRIE HARRIS- 5’7-UNSIGNED chipped in with 17 points, three assists and three steals.
NICOLE COLLINS-5’10-FAMU SIGNEE added 12 points and nine rebounds.
VIVI PENATE-5’5-UNSIGNED led all scorers with a game high 23 points for Palm Beach (17-6,7-2). TRIN TEPPO-6’3-FRESHMAN added 17 points.
Indian River is off until next Saturday, February 13th. They travel to Hillsborough Community College in a critical conference matchup on the road. Currently, HCC sits at 15-6 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. Game time is set for 2 PM.
