Salary:$55,880 for a 10 month contract, tenure track
 
Hours:Faculty must maintain a forty-hour week, which includes classroom hours, at least ten scheduled office hours, and hours for travel, research, committee work, etc. The work week is a five-day week. Evening classes may be scheduled. Faculty teach 15 semester hours (5 three-credit courses) in the fall semester, 15 hours in the spring, and 6 in the summer. Faculty must teach in at least one summer term. Each semester is 16 weeks. A summer term is 7 weeks. The required service days are 200 per year, including graduation day.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position includes a Doctorate (PhD) degree in Mathematics; proven knowledge of and experience in teaching algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus through the Bachelor’s degree level; excellent communication skills – both verbal and written are essential; the ability to recognize and to respond to the individual differences of students from a culturally diverse student population; a willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process; ability to communicate the concepts of mathematics by applying mathematics to real life situations; and computer literacy and experience using computers and calculators in the classroom with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of mathematics. Two to five years teaching experience in a community college or other post-secondary institution is preferred. Research for the improvement of instruction is encouraged. All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: preparing, instructing and grading all Mathematics class coursework; assigning final grades; and maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of thirty-six (36) semester hours annually; preparing a syllabus for each course; instructing assigned classes; grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments; assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets personally to the IRSC Main Campus; maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students; cooperating in Departmental budget preparation and in course planning and development; assisting with Departmental projects and programs (Math Olympics, Math Counts, Science Fair, SAT Preparation Program) appropriately integrating computer software and technology-based instruction; maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment; participating in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service; and performing other duties as assigned. Faculty members serve on at least one College committee. Service to the community is also required.

Essential Physical Skills:
This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
