Interior Design Technology

Overview:

The Interior Design program prepares students for rewarding careers in this design field. Students learn how to create effective functional spaces within the construction parameters limiting remodeling projects. The program provides students with an understanding of traffic patterns in residential and commercial environments, furniture layout, construction materials, codes, fabrics, and technology supporting the design process.

Interior Designers:

  • Prepare drawings using creative and computer techniques to communicate with clients
  • Select furnishings and Interior finishes applying their knowledge of building codes, standards and laws
  • Create interior residential spaces meeting specialized needs such as the aging or disabled client
  • Work with green design and health standards for living spaces
  • Coordinate colors, finishes, and fabrics working with workrooms who manufacture custom products for clients

Degree:

The Interior Design program provides three options that can be completed simultaneously:

  • Associate in Science Degree in Interior Design consisting of 75 college credits of general and technical education
  • Certificate in Kitchen and Bath Design consisting of 39 college credits of specialized courses
  • Certificate in Home Staging (New) consisting of 12 college credits of specialized courses.

Specializations:

Did you know that the Interior Design Program:

  • Prepares graduates to pursue their Florida Interior Design license after completing required work experience and passing the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) examination?
  • Prepares graduates to become Certified Kitchen and Bath Designers with the program endorsed by the National Kitchen and Bath Association?
  • Has a Student Chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers)
  • Provides travel experiences to students allowing them to visit design centers and design activities locally and throughout the state?
