Dental Hygienist

An Associate in Science Degree in Dental Hygiene will prepare you for success as a Dental Hygienist providing preventive dental care to the public. As a Dental Hygienist, you’ll work directly with patients in private dental offices, public health agencies, school systems, hospitals, and clinics.

You’ll learn how to examine the mouth, scale, root plane, clean and polish teeth and expose and interpret X-rays. You’ll be prepared to take the Dental Hygiene National and State Licensure Board examinations. You can also continue your education, earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree for research, teaching, or clinical practice in public or school health programs.

Invitation for Third Party Comments:

The Indian River State College Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs will be visited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) December 4-6, 2018. In accordance with Commission accreditation activities, third party comments are being solicited at this time.

This notice is to inform students, faculty, patients and other interested parties of their right to submit comments to CODA regarding IRSC program adherence to accreditation standards. CODA is interested in the sustained quality and continued improvement of dental and dental related education programs but does not intervene on behalf of individuals or act as a court of appeal for individuals in matters of admission, appointment, promotion or dismissal of faculty, staff or students.

The deadline to submit comments to the Commission office is October 5, 2018. Comments will be screened by Commission staff for relevance, and only signed comments will be considered. Signatures will be removed from comments prior to forwarding them to the program. Note that comments submitted must pertain to the Standards for dental assisting, dental hygiene and dental laboratory technology programs or the policies and procedures used in the Commission’s accreditation process.
