Alexander Van Ovost, D.D.S.

Alexander-VanOvostDr. Van Ovost, a graduate of the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, has worked as a dentist for over 30 years. As a general dentist, Dr. Van Ovost owned a private practice before teaching at the College. He is a member of national and state dental organizations such as the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association and Treasure Coast Dental Society as well as teaching organizations like the Foundation for Allied Dental Education and the American Association of University Professors.

Dr. Van Ovost is located at the IRSC Main Campus, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34981, telephone 772-462-7528. The instructor is available during regularly scheduled office hours and can be emailed at avanovos@irsc.edu.

Mary S. Pelletier, CRDH, M.Ed. — Assistant Professor

Mary-PelletierMary S. Pelletier received her Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene at Miami-Dade Community College, Medical Center Campus, in Miami, Florida, 1981. She worked in private practice for 24 years and was also an adjunct instructor at Indian River Community College (IRCC) for twelve years before being hired as a full-time dental hygiene instructor in January 2004. Professor Pelletier attended Barry University and received her Bachelors of Professional Studies in 1996. She received a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Florida Atlantic University in 2007. Currently a tenured Assistant Professor at Indian River State College, Professor Pelletier received certification to administer local anesthesia in 2012 and now teaches this clinical skill to her students and Florida dental hygienists. Professor Pelletier is currently attending the University of Tennessee Health Science Center to obtain a Master of Dental Hygiene.

A published author, Professor Pelletier has a non-fiction short story in Love is the Best Medicine for Dental Patients and the Dental Team. Professor Pelletier is listed as a reviewer for the textbooks, Community Oral Health Practice for the Dental Hygienist and Periodontology for the Dental Hygienist, 2nd Edition. She has supported her profession by being an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association for over twenty years and the Florida Allied Dental Educators since 1994. Professor Pelletier is a recipient of the Healthcare Education Commission Exemplary Practice Award for her work with improving access to dental healthcare through service learning.
