Be Part of the Health Care Team

Upon completion of this two-year program, you will earn an Associate in Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. The Medical Laboratory Technologist makes up part of the diagnostic health care team. As a MLT you will be responsible for processing body fluids for chemical, serological, and biological analysis. You will also analyze fluids with computerized high technology instruments. Five distinct departments comprise the clinical laboratory. They are the Blood Bank, the Hematology Department, the Serology Department, the Chemistry Department, and the Microbiology Department. 75% of all diagnoses are based on laboratory testing.

Students who enjoy working with their hands, helping patients and working with high tech computers will enjoy the field of Medical Technology. By the completion of the MLT program you will be eligible to sit for the ASCP (MLT) certification exam and the AAB (MT) exam, which will enable you to apply for a technologist license in the State of Florida. Medical Laboratory Technologists must be licensed in the State of Florida to perform laboratory tests.

Medical Laboratory Technology Education Philosophy: The increased application in use of clinical laboratory procedures for diagnosis, combined with the advanced technology of the medical laboratory technology equipment, has prompted the use of specialized personnel to insure the production of quality laboratory procedures. Thus, the role of the medical laboratory technologIst as an important member of the medical team has also been enhanced.
