Wendy L. Smith, P.T., D.P.T., O.C.S., CLT-LANA

Wendy-SmithWendy L. Smith, PT, DPT, OCS, CLT-LANA received her B.S. in physical therapy from the University of Florida and a doctorate (DPT) degree from the University of St. Augustine. She is a licensed physical therapist in Florida and holds specialty certifications in orthopedics and lymphedema. Before teaching at IRSC she practiced in a variety of settings including acute, subacute, outpatient, and she currently works in the home health setting. During her employment at Jupiter Medical Center, she successfully implemented documentation standards and worked closely with the Medicare compliance department. Additionally while at Jupiter Medical Center, she was instrumental in the development of a highly successful women’s health and lymphedema program. In addition, Dr. Smith has worked with The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) and is an item-writer for the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE).

Bernice Cuscuna, M.S., P.T.- Assistant Professor

Bernice-Cuscuna Bernice Cuscuna received her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the College of Staten Island in 1999, where she was awarded Highest Academic Honors and the Biology Faculty Award in Physical Therapy.

She is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Physical Therapy Assistant program at IRSC.

She is a licensed Physical Therapist in Florida, New York, and New Jersey. She has 19 years as a dedicated physical therapy clinician in various settings including the hospital, home care and Outpatient Orthopedics.

She taught in the DPT program at the College of Staten Island for 15 years as an adjunct lecturer. Her diverse coursework included Muscle testing and Goniometry, Ethics, Massage, Therapeutic Exercise, Foundations of patient care and differential diagnosis in orthopedics. She has been recognized for excellence in teaching and her dedication to student success and the profession of Physical Therapy.
