Sharmin F. Anderson M.S.N., A.R.N.P.

Sharmin-AndersonSharmin Anderson received her BSN from Regents / Excelsior College and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner certificate from Florida International University. Professor Anderson has extensive knowledge and experience in Med-surg, Pediatrics, Tele health, Public health, School health, Correctional Nursing, Geriatrics and has worked in several nursing Leadership positions. She is a member of state and national nursing organizations such as the Florida Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association.

Armon Copeland, D.N.P., R.N., CCRN – Assistant Professor

Armon-CopelandProfessor Copeland received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain College of Nursing in Health Systems Leadership. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters in Executive Leadership from Chamberlain College of Nursing. As a Doctorate prepared professional she has been in practice for 35 years as a Registered Nurse and has 32 years of Critical Care experience including open heart, trauma, medical intensive care, cardiac catheterization, oncology, pediatric, and acute rehabilitation nursing experience. Dr. Copeland currently practices at Indian River Medical Center in Critical Care.

Additionally, Dr. Copeland has designed, developed, and implemented Critical Care, Emergency Care, Telemetry Care, Cardiac Catheterization, Intermediate Care, and Open Heart courses and service lines. Professor Copeland has managed overall nursing operations as a Chief Nursing Officer in acute care services.

Professional Licenses and Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor (BLS), Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN), Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager (LHCRM), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Trauma Nursing Core Course Instructor (TNCC), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).

Publications include: Nursing Spectrum New Graduate Internship, and Nursing Spectrum “Most People Don’t Think of Hospice and Children in the Same Sentence”.

Professional Affiliations: She is a member of state and national nursing organizations such as American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau, Association of Practical Nurse Educators of Florida, and Florida Action Coalition.

Lara Santoro, A.R.N.P. - Assistant Professor

Lara-SantoroLara Santoro received her master’s degree in nursing (ARNP) from Florida Atlantic University in 2014. She was awarded her bachelor’s degree in 2011 and her Registered Nurse (ADN) degree in 1998 at Indian River State College. She has been a nurse for 20 years and has worked in a variety of settings. She has worked as a nurse; in the Cardiac Cath Lab, on the Telemetry floor in Cardiac, has performed research in HIV, and has worked in the Home Health setting. She worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Indian River State College from about 2008-2014 until she received her Advanced Nurse Practitioner Degree. At that time she worked with the Cardiology group at Indian River Medical Center from 2014-2017. Her experiences were in the acute care setting with assessment, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac patients.
