Criminal Justice

Ensure the safety of your community by launching a law enforcement or corrections career. Get started in a Basic Recruit Academy and prepare for career advancement with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology. You can take advantage of the Academy Track in Law Enforcement to complete the Academy and your Associate Degree at the same time. Now, you can even earn a Bachelor’s of Applied Science Degree in Public Safety Administration at IRSC.

You’ll complete your program at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, the nation’s most comprehensive, technologically advanced public safety training resource. This 50-acre, 8-building facility includes the VirTra use-of-force training simulator, jail and booking area, indoor tactical training building, and indoor fire arms range. You will interact with other branches of public safety for a complete learning experience, coordinating with fire science, emergency management, legal and human resources professionals. The Criminal Justice Technology Program is a two year degree program offers the student a broad background in the history, philosophy, organization, management, and operation of the criminal justice system. The safety and well being of our Nation's citizens greatly depends on the Law Enforcement Officers responsible for enforcing statutes, laws and regulations.

The Academy Selection Center is an affiliate of the IRSC Criminal Justice Institute. The sole purpose of the Selection Center is to test applicants through various means to determine if the applicant is trainable and if the applicant possesses those traits that might make them hirable after academy training.

Emergency Management

The threat of natural disasters and the 9-11 terrorist attacks have created a high demand for Emergency Management professionals. IRSC offers a challenging Associate degree program in Emergency Administration and Management, as well as certification programs in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. At the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, students are trained in the Emergency Operations Center equipped with highly sophisticated advanced technology, breakout room, kitchen and adjoining classroom. Be a part of IRSC’s Emergency Management programs and build expertise in disaster relief and humanitarian operations.

Fire Science

As a firefighter, you are the first responder, protecting life and property from the destruction of fires. Firefighters are often first on the scene at traffic accidents and medical emergencies. At IRSC Fire Science students can choose from multiple programs to pursue their firefighting careers. Students can receive a well-rounded college education with a strong foundation in fire operations, including field training, as well as prepare to be a certified fire combat firefighter at the Basic Fire Academy. At the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, students train on the 50 acre, 8-building facility that includes fully functional fire station with three apparatus bays and fire suppression lab, six-story training tower, burn prop field (LP and natural gas) and four-story burn simulator for Class “A” training. Human Services

Join a career in this rewarding and rapidly growing field where you can become a professional working in mental health facilities, children’s service agencies, substance abuse treatment facilities, educational facilities, juvenile intervention programs, domestic abuse shelters, victim services programs and social service agencies. IRSC’s Human Service program will prepare students with techniques and strategies to assist clients in identifying problematic behavior and promoting positive personal growth. The Human Services Suite at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex is designed to provide students with practical applied training and skill-building and is equipped with a large and small group therapy room, child therapy room, and multimedia classroom. Paralegal Studies/Legal Assisting

Paralegal professionals play an important role in the fascinating world of law and legal services. Recognized as one of the nation’s top growth jobs by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, paralegal professionals are employed by major law firms, legal departments of major corporations, governmental agencies, real estate departments, title companies, banks, brokerages and insurance companies. IRSC’s respected Paralegal/Legal Assisting Program will prepare you to draft legal documents, perform research, manage a law office and assist attorneys in many vital functions. The Paralegal/Legal Assisting Suite at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex is equipped with a legal library, computer kiosks with online access to Westlaw, study tables, conference room and adjoining multi-media classroom. National Preparedness Institute (Banner Center)

The Homeland Security and Defense industry is relatively new and was established as a federal entity following the events of 9/11. Backed by a grant from Workforce Florida, Inc., the Employ Florida Banner Center for Homeland Security and Defense at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida, is the lead institution for the homeland security industry.

The National Preparedness Institute (Banner Center) provides citizens and professionals alike in the state of Florida with a one-stop center for education, training and information on the issue. We offer innovative, resourceful, and practical information and training on key issues relating to homeland security, terrorism and emergency response for Florida Industries.
