The Writing Center's purpose is to help you improve your academic writing and to promote writing as a practical life skill. The ASWC is a free service offered to all IRSC students. The Center promotes a creative and positive learning environment.

One of the ASWC's goals is to help you become an efficient proofreader of your own work. Every writer needs a reader, and we help you learn to read your own work and recognize how to continually improve your writing skills.

Please read our “What we DO and DON'T Do” handout.

In the ASWC, trained tutors help you analyze and improve your writing skills. The Center offers a variety of helpful resources, including handouts and packets, computer software programs, diagnostic writing activities, and much more. You can obtain help in four ways:

  • Make an appointment for a writing consultation (individual or group appointments available).
  • Email us a grammar or writing question.
  • Attend grammar and writing workshops.
  • Stop by anytime to use the ASWC facilities.

We can help with class assignments, research papers, and general editing questions.

You may use our facilities to draft essays or complete class work or lab assignments. These and other independent activities do not require an appointment.
