IRSC Guide to the NLN Testing Portal

The NLN exam is only administered at the Main Campus Assessment Center (Room W-109) to students that applied to the IRSC Nursing program, advance registration is required.  Listed below are the basic steps required for taking the NLN exam.


  • Go to
  • Click on “Create new account
  • On the “User Account” page complete the following:
    • Username – No special characters are allowed except periods, hyphens, apostrophes, and underscores. It is strongly recommended that you use your email address.
    • Email Address – Must be valid.
    • First Name – Do not use a “nick” name. This name should match your photo ID exactly.
    • Last Name – This name should match your photo ID exactly. (Both the first and last names entered while creating your account will be used on your official score reports for the exams you take.)
    • Primary Phone
    • School Membership (The school you are currently affiliated with for your nursing education) – Indian River State College
    • Time Zone – Automatically detected
    • Address – Must be your current address
    • Date of Birth – mm/dd/yyyy format
    • Demographics – Optional
    • Saving – Click on “Create new account” button in the bottom left corner of the page
  • After creating your new account, a time sensitive link will be sent to your email address that you listed on your account. You must confirm this account, before it can be used. The email you receive will explain how to create your NLN password. If the link expires before you click on it, go to and click on “Request new password”.   • Go to
  • Log into your NLN account and click on “Exam Sessions”
  • In the “School” box, select “Indian River State College” from the drop down menu
  • Find the exam session named “IRSC Pre-Admission PN RN Examination
  • Click on the exam name to view available exam dates and times
  • Select a testing date and time
  • Click on the “Register” button
  • Click on the “Save Registration” button. If the registration is successful, you will see a green banner stating that your “Registration has been saved.”
  • You can view your exam under “My Upcoming Exam(s)

Important Notices:

  • Missing your exam session or arriving late for your scheduled appointment will forfeit your chance to take the NLN Pre-Admission Examination.
  • Exam fees are non-refundable.
  • Exams will not be administered without a valid photo ID.


  • Report to W-109 at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.
  • Bring your valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport or student photo ID. This photo ID cannot be expired, broken or cut.
  • Bring your paid receipts for both the NLN Testing Fee and the IRSC Health Science Application Fee with you.
  • Know your NLN User ID and Password. You will not be able to test without it! (If you need help with your NLN username and password, contact NLN at 1-800-732-8656 before your testing date.)
  • No food or drinks are permitted in the testing center.
  • No cell phones, pagers, smart watches or electronic devices of any kind are permitted in the testing center.
  • Don’t bring extra personal items to the testing center, storage space is very limited.
  • Calculators and disposable earplugs will be provided for this exam.
  • Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. All scratch paper must be turned in to the proctor, before leaving the testing room.
  • The NLN Pre-Admission exams are timed:
    • Verbal Ability: 40 minutes, 60 Questions
    • Mathematics: 40 minutes, 40 Questions
    • Science: 40 minutes, 60 Questions

  • If you have accidently registered for two NLN Pre-Admission Exam sessions, call NLN at 1-800-732-8656.
  • Explain that you accidently registered for two testing sessions and that you need to cancel one of them.
  • You will need to provide them with your NLN username, the testing site (Indian River State College) and your exams dates.
  • Have NLN confirm that you are scheduled for the date/time you want to keep, then ask to cancel the second unwanted appointment.
  • Since you are canceling a testing date/time, there is no form or fee required.
  • If you need to reschedule your testing date, NLN requires that you submit a “NLN Testing Services Reschedule Request Form” at least 14 days prior to your exam date. There is a $25 rescheduling fee for this service.

  • You must complete the entire NLN Pre-Admission PN RN Examination or your test will not be scored.
  • Work carefully, but do not spend too much time on any one question.
  • All testing materials must be turned into the proctor, before leaving the testing room.
  • You should not look at the monitor of your neighbor, nor should you allow anyone to look at your monitor. If anyone is found engaging in these behaviors, he or she may be asked to leave the examination room, and the individuals’ examination scores may be invalidated.
  • Only one attempt per registration period is permitted (i.e. one attempt in the fall and one attempt in the summer). All multiple attempts will be automatically invalidated and no refund will be provided. Students applying for both the RN and PN programs can only test once per registration period.
