Beginning at 7:35 a.m., EST, the planet Mercury will pass directly between the Earth and the Sun, making it possible to see our solar system’s innermost world as a tiny silhouette dot that very slowly crawls across the Sun’s face as it travels in its orbit. The transit takes several hours, ending at 1:04 p.m. The IRSC Hallstrom Planetarium will be open, and members of the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society will host guided views of this celestial event. Filtered telescopes will be set up in the Brinkley Science Center (Building N) parking lot on the IRSC Main Campus in Fort Pierce. This event is FREE and open to the public.
