Student Success Guide
The Student Success Guide provides useful information to navigate IRSC’s online systems and resources. Students learn how to set up RiverMail, navigate MyPioneerPortal, log into online classes, review student support resources, and much more! We recommend all new online students review this guide in full.

Online Learning Sessions
Now that you’ve enrolled in an online class at IRSC, what’s next? Online Learning Sessions are offered at the beginning of each semester and provide tips for navigating the Blackboard learning management system and setting up your student email (RiverMail) account, and suggestions for success during your time at IRSC. Learn more or register for an upcoming Online Learning Session.

IRSC Global Orientation
The IRSC Global Student Orientation (GSO1000) is an optional course that gives students hands-on practice inside the Blackboard learning management system. Students who are new to online learning at IRSC will find this course in the “My Courses” section inside Blackboard.

Blackboard Introduction and Navigation Tutorial
Blackboard is the learning management system at IRSC. Get started with this quick navigation video and learn how to successfully log into Blackboard and locate your courses.

SmarterMeasure
SmarterMeasure is a web-based assessment that measures a learner’s readiness for succeeding in an online and/or technology-rich learning program based on non-cognitive indicators of success. It indicates the degree to which an individual student possesses attributes, skills, and knowledge that contribute to success in learning. SmarterMeasure is available to IRSC students for free through the IRSC Global Student Orientation (GSO1000 course). You can also contact IRSC Global staff.

Virtual Connections Club
The Virtual Connections Club provides a unique opportunity for IRSC Global students to become more involved in co-curricular activities. The club provides a variety of engaging online student activities and events based on students' ideas and interests. Virtual Connections strives to improve the social and academic development of online students, as well as provides meaningful ways to encourage online collaboration and interactivity.

Blackboard Assistance
Students looking for assistance with Blackboard should visit the IRSC Blackboard Help Center for 24/7 support. Here students may call, live chat, create a ticket, browse help topics, reset their pin and more. View the tutorial for tips on navigation through MyPioneerPortal. MyPioneerPortal
MyPioneerPortal is the single sign-on portal for all things IRSC. Here you will connect to multiple applications including the Blackboard learning management system, Workday, RiverLife and Microsoft 365. View the tutorial for tips on navigation through MyPioneerPortal.

Microsoft Office 365
Do you need to write a paper, create a presentation, or store course material in the cloud? Because you’re an IRSC student, we’ve got you covered! Your RiverMail account is hosted on Office 365. Office 365 is Microsoft’s online productivity suite, and you can download it for free! Simply log into MyPioneerPortal, and click the Office 365 icon. Click the “Install Office” button and follow the instructions on the screen.

Blackboard Mobile App
Blackboard has a mobile app for both Apple and Android users. The mobile app provides quick access to courses, instructors and other students. In the app, you can perform a variety of activities such as viewing course content and announcements, taking assignments and tests, participating in discussions and interacting with your class through Blackboard Collaborate. Smarthinking
IRSC offers free online tutoring and academic support services for most subjects 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Smarthinking. Personalized tutoring and homework help is available for most subjects, and expert guidance can help improve your writing—from essays to resumes. Each student is allocated free hours every semester. Access this resource from inside your Blackboard courses.

Academic Support Centers
The Academic Support Centers, or ASC, offer students several benefits. This includes free in-person tutoring and workshops, test preparation, the ability to borrow resources, and more.
The ASC can also review your paper through ASC Us! online. Upload your writing submission and receive tutor feedback and strategy via email.

Assessment (Testing) Centers
At least one exam per online class must be proctored. Assessments can be proctored free of charge at any IRSC Assessment Center. Out-of-the-area students, should contact the IRSC Assessment Center to learn about off-site testing.

IRSC Libraries
IRSC librarians can help you through all stages of the research process, including finding sources for any project and reviewing your paper for citation formats (APA, MLA, etc.). There are libraries on each IRSC campus. To contact a librarian, email library@irsc.edu or text 772-410-5662.

IRSC Student Handbook
The IRSC Student Handbook and Planner provides a variety of information for students, including the academic calendar, policies, procedures, campus locations, safety and security, and more.

How to Succeed in an Online Course
Online course delivery provides an opportunity to learn and complete assignments on a more flexible schedule. Discover tips for making your online learning experience a success, including best practices for studying and time management.

All students are encouraged to work through the Ombudsman/Student Advocate and the internal complaint and appeal process provided by Indian River State College. However, if students feel further investigation is warranted, they can contact The Florida College System (FCS) at http://www.fldoe.org/policy/cie/file-a-complaint.stml.
