Indian River State College (IRSC) graduate, Kelly Sobczak of Vero Beach, has earned a distinct recognition—earning a perfect score (800) on her National Physical Therapy Exam last month.

“Our instructors prepared us well. They taught us more than a physical therapy assistant would need to know. I feel like I could have taken the test right after graduation without studying any more for it and passed it. I like to study, though, and took every practice test I could get my hands on. I didn’t just memorize the information. I learned it and made sure I knew how to apply it.”

Kelly has been a stay at home mom for the past ten years with her two children.

“I had been an exercise enthusiast for most of my life, but it wasn’t until my husband had back surgery a few years ago and needed physical therapy that I was introduced to the field. I realized quickly that physical therapy was a great fit for me based on my interest in the body, and that I had a knack for explaining and demonstrating exercises.”

She didn’t have a formal background in science when she came to IRSC and needed to take all the science prerequisites.

“You really need to be dedicated.  It's a challenging program, but the teachers are awesome.  I had a really great experience at IRSC and would recommend it to anyone.”

After graduating from IRSC this spring, Kelly is now applying for full-time, part-time or per diem jobs. For more information on the Physical Therapy Program at IRSC, visit the Physical Therapist Assistant program page.
