FORT PIERCE, FL—A donation has been made to the Indian River State College (IRSC) Foundation in memory of St. Lucie County Firefighter Ronald Saxton. The funds were used to establish the Ronald Saxton Endowed Scholarship to benefit students accepted into the IRSC Fire Science Academy.

Saxton was a second-generation firefighter who served his community for more than 25 years. Many of these years, Saxton served as a member of the St. Lucie County Fire District’s Special Operation Team. The Foundation is grateful to the St. Lucie County Firefighter’s Benevolent Association and Dragonfly Graphics for their support to create this endowment.

“Ronald was a man who was committed to his family, his job and his community. We are honored his family and friends decided to create an endowed scholarship here at the College,” shared Ann Decker, Executive Director of the IRSC Foundation. “What a great way to commemorate him—giving back to students who are pursuing his passion.”

The scholarship is immediately available for the 2021–2022 academic year. Students interested in applying should complete the online IRSC scholarship application found at https://www.irscfoundation.org/scholarships. The deadline for the Fire Science Academy scholarships vary. For any questions, contact Sherri Monds, Scholarship Development Coordinator, in the IRSC Foundation office at 772-462-4786.
