The Indian River State College (IRSC) Surgical Technology Program is inviting its students to participate in the Florida State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) free virtual workshop “Celebrating You.” AST—a professional partner organization with the IRSC program—is holding the workshop in recognition of Surgical Technologist Week. This free virtual workshop will be hosted on Saturday, September 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Those who participate in the workshop will earn 4 free continuing education units (CEUs).

An IRSC surgical technology student participates in a mock surgery as part of his studies with the program.

“The virtual workshop “Celebrating You” will be an energizing opportunity for our students to network with potential employers and working Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) throughout the state, interact with representatives from various surgical and medical suppliers, and celebrate Surgical Technologist Week,” shares Stephanie Hurst, Program Director for the IRSC Surgical Technology Program.

Ron Kruzel, Executive Director of Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) is the featured Keynote Speaker for the workshop. The event includes 4 speakers and breakout sessions that provide participants with the opportunity to interact and network with members from across the state, learn more about medical missions, legislative updates, employment opportunities and educational programs.

Hurst adds, “Continuous education is part of our profession and is a focus of the in our program. We advocate for membership with our professional partner organizations AST as a student and further promote participation in local workshops and conference opportunities through scholarship and fundraising efforts.”
