Vero Beach Rotary Awards Scholarships to IRSC Business Students

February 27, 2019 Suzanne Seldes

Four Indian River State College (IRSC) business students studying at the IRSC Mueller Campus were named 2019 Rotary Club of Vero Beach Scholars. The scholarship recipients were among the business students participating at the annual Student Expo held on Mueller Campus in December, and selected by a panel of Rotarians as top presenters. This is the fifth year that the Rotary Club of Vero Beach (Vero’s 1st Club) has underwritten scholarships for Expo winners. The students will attend the Annual Rotary Awards luncheon on February 28 to celebrate their accomplishments and network with Rotary Club of Vero Beach Rotarians.

Each of the following IRSC Rotary Club of Vero Beach Scholars will receive $600 in Rotary Scholarship Funds towards the cost of tuition for the 2018–2019 academic year:

  • Diego Alvarado of Vero Beach
  • Lisa Esposito of Sebastian
  • Jesus (Jesse) Silva Esposito of Port St. Lucie
  • Jean Jules of Vero Beach

“Vocational service is the essence of Rotary, and is the foundation from which Rotary serves communities around the world,” declares Rotary Club of Vero Beach board member Richard T. Carlin. “At IRSC, the Rotary Club of Vero Beach provides vocational services by guiding, supporting, and encouraging young people to achieve their goals.”

In addition to funding the scholarship and participating as expo judges, Rotarians play an active role in the development of IRSC business students throughout the year. Their engagement with IRSC students includes student mentoring and connecting students with specific business leaders, participating in the Annual IRSC Speed Networking Event, arranging lectures for IRSC classes with successful business partners and providing Rotary International introductions to IRSC faculty and students traveling and studying abroad.

“Indian River State College is grateful for longstanding partnership with the Rotary Club of Vero Beach and the myriad ways that Rotarians contribute to student success,” says Casey Lunceford, IRSC Provost, Indian River County. “From working directly with students to providing financial support for their education, these Rotarians are making a difference in the lives and futures of IRSC students.”
