Claudia Phillips Named March 2019 Staff Employee of the Month

March 1, 2019 Robert Lane

Indian River State College recognizes Port St. Lucie resident Claudia Phillips as the March 2019 Staff Employee of the Month. Claudia first joined the IRSC family part-time as a Testing Facilitator in April of 2010. In August of 2011 she was promoted to a Testing Assistant II. In April of 2014 Claudia was hired full-time, and now serves as an Assessment Specialist on Pruitt Campus.

Claudia’s work ethic leads her to go above and beyond for IRSC students and strive to create an effective workplace. Over the last five years as the Assessment Specialist for Pruitt Campus, Claudia has done an outstanding job during a time where the testing center has more than doubled in size and increased the number of exams administered by 15%. In fact, over 21,500 exams were administered at the Pruitt Assessment Center in 2017-2018—more than on any other IRSC campus.

Constantly listening to new ideas, opinion, and advice, Claudia has an open door policy that instills trust and encourages a team oriented atmosphere. Leading a team of seven part-time staff members, Claudia oversees their training, tracks their certification, and creates their schedules. Her professionalism and organizational skills guide her team to a level of excellence that make them true ambassadors of the River Way. Additionally, she is fluent in Spanish, using this talent to assist students. In addition to her usual duties, Claudia is a regular contributor to the ESS Division Newsletter and helps the Pruitt Student Service Department during peak registration periods.

Those on the Pruitt Campus who work with Claudia eagerly share how she makes a difference in the lives of both employees and students. One co-worker shares, “I look forward to the times I see Claudia. She is always saying encouraging things to me and my fellow co-workers.” Another co-worker says, “Claudia Phillips does whatever it takes to ensure that students have an excellent testing experience at the Pruitt Assessment Center.” Finally another co-worker adds, “Claudia is the best supervisor I have had in my 16 years in the workforce. She is humble, modest, and strives for personal and professional improvement each day!”
