Sharon Burklo is the July 2019 Staff Employee of the Month

Port St. Lucie resident Sharon Burklo is being recognized as the Indian River State College July Employee of the Month. Sharon started at IRSC part-time in July 1997 working as an Institutional Aide. In July of 1998, Sharon joined the College full-time working as a Help Desk/Telecommunication Technician and in June 2002 was promoted to Desktop Support Technician. In July 2006, Sharon was promoted to Administrative Computing Technician—the position she holds today.

Recognizing that reliable technology is essential to student success, Sharon is on the front lines to guarantee that the technology employees interact with is both dependable and problem-free. Sharon is known for her outstanding professionalism and pleasant, helpful demeanor. From software, hardware, printers, PCs—even smartphones—Sharon is willing to assist. She is thorough and detail-oriented and is willing to work late or come in early to resolve issues in an effective manner.

In addition to her daily responsibilities, Sharon sincerely cares about student success and takes the time to assist them whenever possible. Sharon does everything to help students understand what they are trying to accomplish or resolve their technical problems. Sharon recently earned her HP Self Monitor Certification, which allows her service and maintain HP computers. Additionally, Sharon establishes a great working relationship with vendors that she interacts with regularly, aiding in speedy system repairs and upgrades.

Those working with Sharon daily happily share how she makes a difference at the College. “Sharon is very helpful and takes pride in her position. When responding to Help Desk tickets, she always asks how she can further assist.” Another co-worker says, “Whenever I’ve had a technical issue, Sharon has been amazingly prompt. If she is ever held-up due to a job ahead of mine, she lets me know of any delay, which is never long.” Another adds, “We enjoy having Sharon as the technician for our department. When we need something fixed, we can count on her.”
