Stuart resident Carla Parker is the Indian River State College May 2020 Staff Employee of the Month. Carla first joined the IRSC family in August 2000 as a Clerk I working in Health and Wellness. She serves in the department alongside Dr. Patti Cory-Souza. Carla has earned numerous promotions and today holds the title Clerk IV.
Each day, Carla earns her reputation as the “heart” of Health and Wellness—a department that addresses a broad variety of crucial student needs. IRSC Health and Wellness Center programs provide a comprehensive approach to well-being and good health for IRSC students by offering a wide range of services to which Carla brings a wealth of expertise. Carla demonstrates a steadfast commitment to the institution and its students daily as she supports their success—often during times when they are in the most need.
Carla believes in the value of education both for IRSC students and for her own personal and professional development. Carla has earned three degrees, most recently completing her Master’s Degree in Human Services. Carla is an instrumental team member not only to Health and Wellness, but for the entire Student Affairs Division. In addition to her daily duties in Health and Wellness, Carla also organizes Student Affairs special events.
Those who work with Carla best share how she contributes to the general well-being and success of IRSC students. One co-worker states, “Carla’s heart and soul are dedicated to our students—she is always willing to lend a hand to support them however she can.” Another co-worker shares, “She always takes the time to help, no matter how large or small the request.” They continue, saying, “Carla is so pleasant to work with, regardless of who she is dealing with, and instills confidence in IRSC the way the best employees do!” Finally, one colleague adds, “Carla is the true definition of a team player and works with any group to ensure the success of a project.”
