Indian River State College recognizes Port St. Lucie resident Dr. Bryan Reuther as the November Faculty Member of the Month. In January 2014 he joined IRSC faculty full-time as an Assistant Professor in the Human Services Department in Public Service Education Division.

Dr. Bryan Reuther is the November 2019 Faculty Member of the Month

Born in Vero Beach, Bryan grew up in Port St. Lucie—graduating from Lincoln Park Academy and attending IRSC as a dual enrollment student. As a Treasure Coast native, Bryan sees teaching at IRSC as a way to nurture the community that supported him.

Bryan is enjoyable to work with and sets a friendly and professional example for his students as he prepares them for careers in the Human Services field. Colleagues describe Bryan as caring, funny, dedicated, and student-centered. Bryan is willing to go the extra mile for his students—or any student—at IRSC.

Prior to starting at IRSC, Bryan completed his Doctorate in Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Nova Southeastern University, and he is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Bryan also earned a Master’s Degree from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor’s Degree, with a double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. Bryan’s commitment to learning continues as he nears completion of a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom.

Outside of the classroom, Bryan is member of the Institutional Review Board, Critical Thinking Professional Learning Community, Data Analytics Workgroup, and a Co-Advisor of the Human Services Club. He is an active academic, presenting yearly at national and international conferences on topics ranging from the intersection of philosophy and psychology to therapeutic approaches to trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder. When he’s not at the College, Bryan can be found relaxing at home with a good book, his dog Sandi, and a cup of coffee.

Bryan’s students eagerly express the value that he places on student success, and how it inspires them to be their best. “Dr. Reuther really thinks of his students’ success first by placing their needs before his own. He always engages us to make sure we understand the material.” One student shares, “Dr. Reuther goes above and beyond to help any student by providing plenty of time to us before and after our class.” Finally, another student adds, “Dr. Reuther is so enthusiastic about our future, and that enthusiasm shows in how every student is engaged in his class.”
